Our first Security Lab event, as it happened

On Wednesday 11th April, we hosted our very first Security Lab event at St. Helens R.F.C, with a great mix of customers and businesses in attendance. The event had a clear focus on informing and educating our delegates and colleagues on the importance of cyber security and the modern threats that businesses are facing.

We kicked off proceedings with the Data Protection People who spoke in great detail about the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation, a hot topic that left presenter Jason Ellis flooded with questions.

We then shifted focus to cyber security, with David Meredith from our partner SonicWall sharing their key findings from the annual Cyber Threat Report – available to download here.

One key finding was that, while the volume of ransomware attacks has decreased the number of ransomware variants has increased by well over 100% in the last year alone, highlighting the real danger of poorly managed security practices and systems.

SonicWall’s security expert Colin Gracie also spoke about the General Data Protection Regulation, which provided our delegates another opportunity to fire their burning questions at him.

We then moved discussion onto layered security and the ways in which businesses can manage their risks, thanks for SolarWinds’ Louise Butler. Before we rounded up proceedings, Darren Leach from SecurEnvoy took us through the importance of multifactor authentication, how it can help businesses keep secure and what SecurEnvoy can do for companies’ security protocols.

Questions came in throughout the day and one key takeaway for us was how concerned people are about being able to adequately protect themselves against so many modern threats. Awareness of these threats is on the up, and it is very positive for us to see delegates empowered to ask lots of questions to our panel of experts.

Missed out on our event? All of the presentations from our speakers are now available to watch on our YouTube channel here.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for attending, to our speakers from SonicWall, SecurEnvoy, SolarWinds and the Data Protection People and also to St. Helens R.F.C. for hosting us.

We look forward to welcoming you to our future events soon! To find out more, sign up to our mailing list below.
